Like many other species in the family of Apogonidae (Cardinal fishes), these Cardinals can potentially host Long Spine Urchins in the Genus of Diadema for protection from predators, and to raise fry. This species has been observed in the wild cohabitating with Diadema setosum and Diadema antillarum.
